‘97 Cadillac,
Blowing Smoke
Q: I have a ‘97 Cadillac with a Northstar
engine that burns a quart of oil every 400-500 mi. The car has 45,000
miles on the engine. The dealer tells me this is normal for a Cad. Am
I getting the straight scoop? Joe
A: What!
No one told you? You’re the owner of the most advanced engine made! Yea,
it is designed to use a case of oil between changes! In the old Saabs,
you added oil to the gas when you filled it. With a Northstar you just
keep adding it to the engine instead! Yea that’s the ticket, Cadillac’s-
they all burn oil! I hope they gave you a pooper scooper to go with that
line. All mocking aside, your Northstar engine has a problem. No way should
you be using darn near a quart of oil to each tank of gas!
