'98 Ford Taurus, Transmission & Service Engine Soon Light Problems

We have
a ‘98 Ford Taurus and have had difficulty with the transmission and
also the service engine soon light coming on. I would appreciate it if
you could tell me if there has been any recalls for transmission or reimbursement
for the added warranty due to transmission problems ........John
A:
Not enough info to tell you if there are any warranty related
issues. I’m willing to bet a coffee that your transmission problems
and the Service Engine Soon warning light are related. But, how are you
to tell? You’re going to have to ask the vehicle’s computer.
The computer will provide a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). The DTC provides
the information to determine what computer system is not operating correctly.
Once this is known the question can be answered if there is any relationship
and the diagnostic steps that are needed to correctly repair the vehicle.
Until that point it is only guess work on what your vehicle may need for
repairs.
