Mitsubishi Starion TSI, Sticking Clutch
Q:
I have an '87 Mitsubishi Starion TSI, and I have problem with the clutch.
It is a fairly new clutch so I do not believe it is worn. The problem
is when it's cold outside the clutch slips , when the car warms up it
does get better. On a warm day, the clutch grabs fine. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.
A: Have
your technician check the movement of the clutch release fork and shaft
that enters the transmission. It's not uncommon for corrosion to interfere
with the movement of the clutch release fork and shaft assembly, which
is made of steel, while the housing that the assembly travels through
is made of aluminum. The heat of the engine will cause the aluminum housing
to expand, allowing freer movement of the shaft assembly. If the clutch
release fork and shaft assembly does not move freely the transmission
will have to be removed from the vehicle to correct the problem. Don't
let it go too long or it will ruin your new clutch.
