Pontiac Sunfire, Radiator Fan
Q:
I own
a ‘98 Pontiac Sunfire. The other day the engine coolant
light on my dash came on. I added some coolant. Is the fan
behind the radiator suppose to stay on all the time while
the engine is running? I took it to a car place, he said
I had coolant but we discovered the fan wasn't running.
When I looked in the coolant reservoir the next day, it
was dry. Should I have the motor to the fan or the thermostat
switch replaced?
A:
No, the cooling fan should not run all the time in your vehicle. The first thing you really want to know? Where did the coolant go? Have the cause for your coolant loss diagnosed first. While that check is being performed, it is a simple task to confirm if the cooling fan is cycling correctly.
