Buick LeSabre, Replacement "Prindle" Switch
Q:
I have
a '94 Buick LeSabre. What is a prindle switch and why can't I get one?
I am handicapped and need to have a car at all times. The car started
going slow and I brought it in to the dealer and he said it needed a neutral
safety switch or a prindle. Was there any recall on this?

A:
I think
what has happened is there was a typo or spelling error. The reason I
believe this is that you stated a neutral switch. There is a switch called
a park neutral safety switch. In newer vehicles this switch can also be
the transmission shift position switch/sensor. This switch/sensor tells
the computer what gear/selection the driver has made. On some computer
scan tools this switch/sensor information is displayed as PRNDL. Depending
on the transmission, if this switch/sensor is bad, the transmission will
not shift correctly. Call the service writer at the dealership and ask
for clarification of the prindle. I think with the right information it
will be much easier to get the part you're looking for.
