Ford Explorer, A Sick Transmission
Q:
I just
bought a 99 Ford Explorer XLT, with only 130K on the
clock. The problem I have is when the car is in drive it
seems to jump into neutral and after a few seconds back
into gear. This happens intermittently and when the car
is cruising along on flat road! Not sure, if the fact that
the overdrive lamp flashes most of the time and pressing
the overdrive button makes no difference is also a symptom
of the problem. - Simon A:
The flashing overdrive light is a good clue that your Explorer needs a computer check. The check engine light doesnt need to be on to indicate theres a system problem. The flashing overdrive light is the transmissions side of the system asking for help. Have a technician perform a computer check and you’ll be on your way to answering the question of why your transmission is not working correctly.
