'94 Nissan
Quest, Exhaust Leaks and Trans Problems
Q: We have a '94 Nissan Quest, which we've been told by the
dealer, has developed an exhaust manifold leak. We've heard that Quests
had a problem with manifold studs. In fact, the service center told us
it would cost $350 if it was only one side, $700 if both sides. Do you
know of any secret warranties about this problem? The other problem I've
had is hesitation when putting the van into reverse when cold. It takes
a second to actually move when first put into reverse. We hate to have
to pay to fix this manifold problem if, as we've been told, it's a common
problem with this vehicle.....Kathy
A: Yes,
your Quest is known for exhaust manifold stud problems. ALLDATA Information
Systems shows Bulletin # EM94-002 addressing the use of improved, more
durable, design manifold studs when replacing broken studs. Because of
your vehicle's age having the needed repairs done under a warranty or
secret warranty is not likely. But, if you do, let us know and we'll share
with other reads. As for the transmission, fluid quality is critical,
low or burnt fluid will cause problems. If there is a doubt have the transmission
flushed with fresh fluid.
