Pontiac Bonneville SE, Leaking Moonroof
Q:
I have a '94 Pontiac Bonneville SE with a power Moonroof. I don't have
any leakage with the roof that I'm aware of, but recently I have noticed
the headliner above the driver and passenger doors is damp and has a white
chalk type stain. Does this mean my Moonroof is leaking? Also, when the
car is running you can hear an electric motor type sound, that changes
tone with RPM. A friend suggested that it was the fuel pump making noise
and that I should just turn the radio up. Whattaya' think?.. J J
A: WhattaI'
think? Have the drains checked. Factory installed Moonroofs and sunroofs
have a built-in drainage system that captures water and channels it out
of the vehicle. Plastic tubing is used that travels under the headliner
and down a door pillar and exits the vehicle. It's not uncommon for debris
to restrict or plug the drains. The result is a backup of water, which
drains inside the vehicle. As for the electric motor type sound, have
it checked out, you may be hearing the beginning of the end. The end is
when you're stuck on the side of the road.
