Gearshift Lever and Cable
The gearshift lever controls the transaxle gear selection through the shift cable. The cable detent and gearshift lever position locking is controlled by the gearshift lever knob.

Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system prevents the gearshift lever from being moved out of the PARK (P) position by the shift lock actuator, the park range switch, and the ignition/shifter interlock cable that is connected to the ignition switch. The ignition switch must be in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed to move the gearshift lever out of the PARK (P) position. The brake pedal position is detected by the brake pedal position (BPP) switch.
The manual override button will mechanically bypass the electronic portion of the shift interlock system and allow the gearshift lever to be moved out of the PARK (P) position. The manual override button is part of the gearshift lever.
