The upper portion of the Vehicle Certification (VC) label contains the manufacturer name, the month and year of manufacture, the certification statement and the VIN. It also includes Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR) . The VC label is located on the left-hand front door jamb.

VEHICLE CERTIFICATION LABEL REFERENCE

  

The first set of characters indicate the vehicle primary body color code. The second set of characters (if applicable), indicate a two-tone or accent body color code. All colors are base coat/clear coat.

  • E4 - Vermilion
  • FL - Toreador Red
  • SU - Amazon Green
  • TS - Silver Frost
  • UA - Ebony
  • YZ - Oxford White
  • MK - Twilight Blue
  • K7 - Bright Atlantic Blue
  • B7 - Zinc Yellow
  • C6 - Sunray Gold
  • TF - Mineral Gray Metallic

  

The brake type codes are:

  • C - Anti-lock with front disc/rear drum
  • 1 - four-wheel disc
  • A - front disc, rear drum without Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)

  

The interior trim codes are listed below. The first character identifies the interior fabric. The second character identifies the interior color.

  • 4 - Stockton cloth
  • A - leather
  • Z - Brook/Quantum cloth

The interior trim colors are:

  • A - Medium Graphite
  • E - Medium Prairie Tan
  • W - Midnight Black

  

Tape and paint stripe codes do not apply.

  

The radio type codes are:

  • H - Electronic AM/FM stereo with cassette
  • 6 - AM/FM premium electronic stereo with cassette with premium sound

  

The axle ratio codes are:

  • 3K -3.74, two-door/four-door
  • 4T -4.10, two-door
  • 3D -3.85, four-door

  

The transmission/transaxle codes are:

  • E - four-speed automatic
  • W - five-speed manual

  

The spring codes are:

  • Front spring base part number is 5310, rear spring base part number is 5560.

  

Powertrain Calibration Information

NOTE : Powertrain calibration information is limited to a maximum of five characters per line on the Vehicle Certification Label. Because of this, calibration identification consisting of more than five characters will wrap to the second line on the VC label.

Powertrain calibration information is printed in the lower right corner of the Vehicle Certification Label. Only the base calibration information is printed. Revision levels will not appear, however, they can be found in On Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) . For the current model year, Ford Motor Company is using three different Protocols which describe powertrain base calibration. These Protocols are designed to provide worldwide standardization for vehicle calibration. If the electronic calibration strategy has been used since 1998 and carried into the current model year, Protocol 1 will be used. Refer to Protocol below. If the electronic calibration strategy has been used since 1999 and carried into the current model year, Protocol 2 will be used. Refer to Protocol 2 below. For electronic calibration strategies introduced in the 2000 or 2001 model year, Protocol 3 will be used. Refer to Protocol 3 below.

Unique Calibration
The Emissions/CAFE/C02 Compliance Department is responsible for assigning these calibration numbers. Unique calibration identifications are assigned to cover similar vehicles to differentiate between tires, drive configurations, final drive ratios and other calibration-significant factors.

These two characters are chosen by the analyst to provide identifiable information unique to each calibration. For example, using the number 2 to denote a two-valve engine versus using the number 4 to denote a four-valve engine offers an easily identifiable difference.
