Muffler Inlet Pipe

Removal

  1. CAUTION: When repairing the exhaust system or removing exhaust components, disconnect the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) at the wiring harness to prevent damage to the sensors and harness.

Disconnect the HO2S electrical connectors.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the muffler.

  

  1. Remove the three way catalytic converter (TWC) to muffler inlet pipe and resonator nuts and bolts.
  2. Remove and discard the exhaust converter outlet gasket.

  

  1. Remove the crossmember.
  1. Remove the bolts.
  2. Remove the crossmember.

  

  1. Pry the three exhaust hanger insulators from the mounting hooks.
  2. Remove the muffler inlet pipe and resonator.

Installation

  1. Inspect the muffler inlet pipe and resonator for cracked joints, broken welds and corrosive damage that could result in exhaust system leaks. If necessary, replace the muffler inlet pipe and resonator.
  2. Position the muffler inlet pipe and resonator and push the exhaust hanger insulator into the mounting hooks.
  3. Install a new exhaust converter outlet gasket between the TWC and the muffler inlet pipe and resonator.

  

  1. Install the TWC to muffler pipe and resonator bolts and nuts.
  2. Install the muffler.

  

  1. Install the crossmember.
  2. Lower the vehicle.
  3. Connect the HO2S electrical connectors.
