Special Tool(s)

Removal

  1. Remove the battery tray.

  

  1. Disconnect the clutch slave cylinder tube from the hydraulic clutch hose, and plug the hose.

  

  1. Remove the retaining clip and the hose from the bracket.

  

  1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) electrical connector.

  

  1. Disconnect the backup lamp electrical connector.

  

  1. Remove the bolt and the electrical connector support bracket.

  

  1. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.

  

  1. Disconnect the park neutral position (PNP) switch electrical connector.

  

  1. Install Three-Bar Engine Support.

  

  1. Remove the LH support insulator nuts and washers.

  

  1. Remove the rear upper transaxle to engine bolt.

  

  1. Remove the front upper transaxle to engine bolt.
  2. Remove the starter motor.
  3. Remove the halfshafts.

  

  1. Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid.

  

  1. NOTE: Use a new gasket on the drain plug.

Install the drain plug.

  

  1. NOTE: Disconnect the A/C line from the retainer located on the front of the engine support crossmember.

Remove the engine support crossmember.

  1. Remove the bolts and nuts.
  2. Remove the lower front insulator nuts.
  3. Remove the lower rear insulator nuts.
  4. Remove the engine support crossmember.

  

  1. Remove the gearshift stabilizer bar to transaxle nut.

  

  1. Remove the gearshift stabilizer bar and support from the transaxle.

  

  1. Remove the transaxle gearshift rod nut.

  

  1. Remove the transaxle gearshift bolt and remove the transaxle gearshift rod and clevis from the input shift shaft (7L267).

  

  1. Disconnect the lower clutch slave cylinder tube and remove from the slave cylinder tube.

  

  1. Remove the nuts and the clutch slave cylinder.

  

  1. Remove the lower transaxle to engine bolts.

  

  1. Position Transmission Jack under the transaxle and secure the transaxle to the jack.
  2. Remove the catalytic converter.
  3. Remove the three remaining transaxle to engine bolts.
  4. Carefully lower the transaxle out of the vehicle.
