The charging system is a 12-volt negative ground system consisting of:

  • Generator (GEN) with an integral rear mount Voltage Regulator (VR) and an internal fan.
  • Battery.
  • Charging system indicator.
  • Electrical wiring and cables.

Battery
Vehicles are supplied with a maintenance-free 12-volt battery rated at 58 amp-hours . It is used to start the vehicle and supplies extra electrical power at times of high system current demand.

Battery Cables
The battery cables are integral to the main wiring harness.

Generator and Voltage Regulator
The standard generator provides 95 amps of direct current to charge the vehicle battery. It has an integral voltage regulator.

Charging System Indicator
The charging system indicator illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position and goes out as the engine is started and the charging system begins to operate. The indicator is located on the instrument cluster.
