Hose - Zetec, Pressure and Return
Removal

  

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.

  

  1. Remove the (A) bolts and the (B) crossmember.

  

  1. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the steering gear.
    • Cap the power steering return hose and the steering gear.

  

  1. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the steering gear.
    • Cap the power steering pressure hose and the steering gear.

  

  1. Disconnect the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector.

  

  1. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
    • Cap the power steering pressure hose and power steering pump.

  

  1. Remove the bolt and the lower power steering hose retaining bracket.
  2. Lower the vehicle.

  

  1. Remove the nut and the upper power steering hose bracket.

  

  1. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering fluid cooler.

  

  1. Disconnect the power steering pressure hoses from one another.

  

  1. Remove the power steering pressure hose brackets.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the power steering pressure hose brackets.
  1. Remove the power steering hoses from the vehicle.
  2. Remove the O-ring seals and discard.

Installation

NOTE: Install new teflon seals 388898-S on the power steering pressure hose fittings before connecting the hoses.

NOTE: Make sure all threads are clean and free of debris before connecting hoses.

  1. Lubricate and install new O-ring seals before installation of the power steering hoses.
  2. Position the power steering hoses in the vehicle.

  

  1. Install the power steering pressure hose brackets.
1 Position the brackets.
2 Install the bolts.

  

  1. Connect the power steering pressure hoses together.

  

  1. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering fluid cooler.

  

  1. Position the upper power steering hose bracket and install the nut.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.

  

  1. Position the lower power steering hose retaining bracket and install the bolt.

  

  1. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.

  

  1. Connect the PSP switch electrical connector.

  

  1. NOTE: Install new teflon seals 388898-S on the power steering pressure hose fittings before connecting the hose.

NOTE: Make sure that the threads are clean and free of debris before connecting the hose.

Connect the power steering pressure hose to the steering gear.

  

  1. NOTE: Install new teflon seals 388898-S on the power steering pressure hose fittings before connecting the hose.

NOTE: Make sure that the threads are clean and free of debris before connecting the hose.

Connect the power steering return hose to the steering gear.

  

  1. Install the crossmember and bolts.
  2. Lower the vehicle.
  3. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

Connect the battery ground cable.

  1. Fill the power steering system.
