IF YOU CONFIRM:
A rattle or buzz noise is heard from the rear parcel shelf area of an applied vehicle when the audio system is played.

The incident may be more pronounced with more bass.
^
The incident may be more pronounced on certain AM stations.
ACTION:
1.
Inspect underneath the rear parcel shelf finisher for loose bolts, wiring, etc.

Repair as needed.
2.
Install flocking tape to the mounting holes of the speakers located the rear parcel shelf.

Refer to SERVICE PROCEDURE in this bulletin.
NOTE: Do not diagnose/replace these speakers until after performing this bulletin, if at all necessary.
IMPORTANT: The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire SERVICE PROCEDURE as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

NOTE Pictures are taken from an Altima Sedan. Altima Hybrid is similar.
1. Remove the speakers in the rear parcel shelf area.

Refer to the appropriate section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM).
^
Use a suitable covering on the areas of the interior where work is being performed.
^
Store the rear parcel shelf finisher in a clean area.
2.
Inspect the finisher for broken or missing clips and other fastening hardware.
^
Repair / replace as needed.
3.
Inspect the finisher support for loose bolts, stuck-on clips, etc. (see Figure 1).
Hybrid vehicles: Ensure the HV battery air intake finisher/tabs are OK/Not broken.

Repair as needed.
4.
Apply 15 mm x 20 mm pieces of flocking tape (see PARTS INFORMATION) over each of the speaker screw holes. See Figure 2.

Install the long end of the flocking tape over the edge and into the speaker mounting hole.

This flocking tape can be found in the latest Squeak & Rattle Kit (P/N J-50397).
5.
Poke a hole through each piece of flocking tape where the speaker screw fits (see Figure 2).

This will keep the speaker screw from grabbing and twisting the flocking tape during installation.
6.
Reinstall the speakers: Reconnect each connector, and then properly tighten all eight (8) screws, 4 per speaker.
7.
Turn on the audio system: Verify the buzz / rattle / vibration is resolved.
