HEATER and COOLING UNIT ASSEMBLY
Removal and Installation
COMPONENTS
REMOVAL
- Discharge the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to See: Service and Repair\Refrigeration System.
- Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system. Refer to See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Cooling System\Coolant\Service and Repair(QR25DE), See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Cooling System\Coolant\Service and Repair (VQ35DE).
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Remove the wiper motor and linkage. Refer to See: Wiper and Washer Systems\Wiper Motor Linkage\Service and Repair.
- Remove the upper cowl (for VQ35DE only). Refer to See: Body and Frame\Cowl\Cowl Moulding / Trim\Service and Repair\Coupe.
- Remove the strut tower bar (for VQ35DE only). Refer to See: Steering and Suspension\Suspension\Service and Repair\FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY\Exploded View.
- Remove the lower RH cowl (for VQ35DE only). Refer to See: Body and Frame\Cowl\Cowl Moulding / Trim\Service and Repair\Coupe.
- Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core pipes.
CAUTION:
Cap or wrap the pipe joint with a suitable material such as vinyl tape to avoid the entry of contaminants into the system.
- Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the expansion valve. Refer to See: Description and Operation\Refrigeration System\Component.

Cap or wrap the line joint with a suitable material such as vinyl tape to avoid the entry of contaminants into the system.
- Remove the instrument panel assembly. Refer to See: Body and Frame\Interior Moulding / Trim\Dashboard / Instrument Panel\Service and Repair\Removal And Installation.
- Remove the steering column assembly. Refer to See: Steering and Suspension\Steering\Steering Column\Service and Repair\Removal and Installation.
- Disconnect the drain hose.
- Remove the heater and cooling unit assembly attached to the steering member as one assembly from the vehicle.
- Remove the blower unit from the heater and cooling unit and steering member assembly.
- Remove the heater and cooling unit from the steering member.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
