HOOD

HOOD LOCK CONTROL : Removal and Installation

REMOVAL

  1. Remove the front grill. Refer to See: Grille\Service and Repair\Coupe.
  2. Remove the LH fender protector. Refer to See: Fender\Front Fender\Front Fender Liner\Service and Repair\Coupe.

  

  1. Remove the hood lock assembly bolts.
  2. Disconnect the hood lock cable from the hood lock, and unclip it from the hoodledge.

  

  1. Remove the screws (a) with power tool, and separate the hood lock release handle (1) from the hood lock release cable (2).
  2. Remove the grommet from the upper dash, and pull the hood lock cable into the passenger compartment.

CAUTION:
While pulling, be careful not to damage (peel) the outside of the hood lock cable.

INSTALLATION

  1. Pull the hood lock cable through the upper dash into the engine compartment.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to bend the cable too much, keep the radius 100 mm (3.94 in) or more.

  

  1. Attach the hood lock cable (2) to the hood lock release handle (1) and install the hood lock release handle screws (a).
  2. Check that the cable is not offset from the center of the grommet, and seat the grommet into the upper dash hole.

  

  1. Apply the sealant around the grommet at * mark.
  2. Position the hood lock cable and clip it into place.

  

  1. Connect the hood lock cable to the hood lock assembly.
  2. Loosely install the hood lock assembly.
  3. Perform hood fitting adjustment. Refer to See: Hood\Adjustments\Coupe.
  4. Check the hood lock control operation.

Inspection

CAUTION:
If the hood lock cable is bent or deformed, replace it.

  1. Check that the secondary latch is properly engaged with the secondary striker (B: 6.8 mm (0.268 in) shown in the figure) with hood's own weight.

  

  1. While operating the hood opener, carefully check that the front end of the hood is raised by approx. 20 mm (0.79 in) . Also check that the hood opener returns to the original position.
  2. Check that the hood lock release handle operating force is 49 N (5.0 kg, 11 lb) .
  3. Install so the static closing force of the hood is 343 - 490 N (35 ­ 44 kg-f, 77.1 - 110.2 lb-f) .

  

  1. Check the hood lock lubrication condition. If necessary, apply "body grease" as shown.
