Chevrolet Suburban, Brake Shake
Q:
I have a '94 Chevrolet Suburban (C2500) with ABS brakes. When I brake,
I get a strong vibration in the front-end that feels like there is something
loose in the suspension. The vibration goes away when I release the brake
pedal. I also notice that when braking, at very low speed (less than 5
mph) the brakes seem to grab a little every rotation or so of the wheel.
I have a relative that has a similar problem with the same model Suburban.
Are other people having the same problem? If so, what's been done to correct
it?.......Michael S.
A: The
symptoms you're describing are that of warped disk brake rotors. When
applying the brakes, the uneven surface of the brake rotor will cause
the steering to shake and in some cases the brake pedal to pulsate. If
a disk brake rotor is warped severely, the unevenness can be felt, and
even heard at low speeds. The fix requires re-surfacing or replacing the
disc brake rotors.
