Chevy Z28, Smoking Front Brakes
Q: I have a ‘72 Z28 Camaro that I did a
complete restoration to including all new brake components . The problem
is sometimes when you drive the car the brake pedal gets very hard and
the front brakes start to drag. The car has power front disc brakes and
drums on the rear. What could be causing this problem?....Wendell
A: It
sounds as if the push rod behind the master cylinder in the brake booster
is incorrectly adjusted. If the adjustment is incorrect, brake fluid will
not be allowed to return to the master cylinder freely. As the vehicle
is driven these components heat up and the clearance becomes less (if
there is any) and the passage that is suppose to allow for the release
and return of brake fluid tothe master cylinder becomes more restricted.
The end result is brakes that do not release correctly until things cool
down.
