91 Chevy Blazer, Dash Lights
Q: I have a ‘91 Chevy Blazer and the dash lights have gone out. This of course means that I cannot tell how fast I’m driving, fuel level , oil pressure etc.. I have checked all the fuses and they are fine. My mechanic says that he is at a loss of what the problem can be without tearing it apart and then he’s not sure if he will figure it out. Any suggestions on where to start looking for this problem? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.....Bill

A: There is a switch on the dash of your vehicle that controls the brightness of the dash lights that is called a panel & interior lamp control switch. It is not uncommon for this switch to fail, which will result in complete loss of the lights that illuminate the gauges and displays on the dash of your vehicle. In fact, after checking the 5 amp fuse that provides power for the dash lights that would be the next component I’d check. Rarely, is it more involved than this switch if all the dash lights went out at once.
