'92 Chevy Blazer, Foreign Objects
Q:
I have a 92
Chevy Blazer S10 with a 4.3 Vortec engine. Heres the problem. Somehow
an object of approx. the size of a quarter, very thin and light passed
through and entered into the intake body. Immediately after hearing slight
tapping within the motor I shut her down and pulled the upper and lower
intake manifold off. I found part of this material in the upper intake
and believe there is still a piece somewhere within the engine. At this
point do you think I should pull the heads or drop the exhaust? Where
do you think it could be??
A:
I would
suggest removing the cylinder heads. Why? If there is a tapping noise
coming from the engine there is likely a part of a piece of something
in one of the cylinders. Each time the piston comes up to the top of the
cylinder there is not enough room for the cylinder head, piston and the
piece of foreign material. That is why there is a tapping noise.
