'97 Ford Explorer, No Heat
Q:
I just replaced the
thermostat and a broken potentiometer in my 97 Ford Explorer. It
still does not blow any hot air. How do I go about replacing the heater
box or blend door I read about in your article? Is the heater box/blend
door a dealer only item?
- David
A:
The heater box is a
dealer item only. Ford has had a problem with these heater boxes. When
you get the replacement, make sure it is the latest and greatest. Why?
Ford has updated them more than once due to problems. As for telling you
how to replace the heater box? There is not enough room in this column
to walk you through that job. If youre going to be performing your
own repair may I suggest the ALLDATA DIY program. To replace the heater
box in your vehicle is not a simple job. You will need information and
diagrams to do the job right and not lose all your hair in the process.
Im not saying you have to have this product to do the job. But,
I will tell you I would not approach a job/repair of that type without
the information provided in the ALLDATA System. So before you tackle this
job, go online. Information is going to be the best tool for you to purchase
in repairing your vehicle.
